I
t is the desire and fervent commitment of Harmony Hospice to become the hospice
and palliative care program of choice in Pittsburgh and surrounding
communities. Recognizing the highly interpersonal/interactive nature of this
type of care, Harmony Hospice is committed to a defined and designated
geographic area, as such is key to fostering family-centered care. This
approach allows Staff to respond in an effective and efficient manner. In
addition, the stress on Staff oftentimes associated with wide geographic
coverage is eliminated, thus allowing for more personal/intimate involvement.
Employees are, in essence, the backbone of any successful organization and, as
such, to the extent they are passionate and believe strongly in what they are
doing, so too will the patients/families.
The core of what will be accomplished lies in the degree of service we are able
to provide. In the final analysis, it is all about the difference we make in
the lives of our patients/families. In the forefront of everything we do is the
notion that we have made a difference in the life and well-being of the
patient/family.
Harmony Hospice strives to be recognized as the expert in palliative and end of
life care for the constituents it currently serves and those it hopes to serve
in the future. This is carried out by being a constant and ever-present
resource in the community. Through various outreach programs and other means of
education, Harmony Hospice is unfaltering in its commitment to serve as an
"Ambassador"
in terms of bringing information and education to those whom it serves.
Life is, indeed, a continuum embracing a myriad of events and circumstances.
Intrinsic to this is how one approaches life in general and, more importantly,
end of life. Harmony Hospice, therefore, views its approach as embracing the
commitment to making a difference...in life!
Mission
Harmony Hospice believes it is the right of every individual to have access to
comprehensive palliative and end of life care. Embodied in the premise that
life is a continuum, embracing all aspects of trials, tribulations, and
triumphs, end of life, like birth, is something to be acknowledged as an
integral component of life.
A family-centered approach to care is taken recognizing that treatment and
intervention with the patient, family members and/or significant others are
critical in terms of achieving a successful outcome. This is reached through
extensive and continuous education and support of the family. The basis of our
care and intervention is to promote mental, spiritual, emotional and physical
well being.
Harmony Hospice serves as a major resource in the community for education and
information on palliative and end of life care. Through active outreach
programs, Harmony Hospice works closely with local/regional health care
providers to make the public both aware and accepting of palliative and end of
life care.
